The storyline of Hello Neighbor is played in three acts. The first act opens with you hearing a scream from across the street. You detect the noise came from your neighbor’s house so you go ahead and investigate. Unfortunately, the neighbor sees you while he is in distress and chases you back into your home. You are then tasked to solve different puzzles so you can escape through a series of doors. The final cutscene before the second act is you getting caught by the neighbor.
You will find yourself locked in a room until a shadowy figure unlocks the door. At this point, you can look through the keyhole to see who it is or go ahead and escape through a vent. You will end up outside of your neighbor’s house only to see that it has grown. It has a new fence which you will have to climb over. Should the neighbor catch you escaping, a new cutscene will play.
